You know all the right acupressure points. You’ve taken the massage class. You know when to be funny and when to be silent. You wipe the mucous from her legs, the sweat from her brow, and the poo from her, well, you know. But do you know how to take birth photos that work every time? Are your photos consistently blurry, or have you struggled with an older digital camera that takes the photo a few seconds too late? Can you pick up any camera from a disposable point-and-shoot to an intimidating SLR and capture the intensity, joy, achingly slow and startlingly fast moments of birth? Your clients may remember your words and your touch, but the longest lasting memories will be the photos of the birth—the ones they keep to themselves, AND the ones they share with the world.

Who Can Benefit?

This class will be of special interest to midwives, doulas, midwife birth assistants, labor support team members, and the invited guest who has been given the task to take photos.

What Will Be Covered?

Come learn how to best use your camera during a birth:

  • What settings work best on your camera
  • The basics of any camera that is handed to you
  • Photographing in low light
  • Capturing the details and removing the background
  • Getting some shots that really reflect how elegant, sexy,
powerful, capable, and strong the birthing mom was during the
action, and that show the birth partner and birth attendants
    looking good, too
  • Getting good nursing photos—more baby; less blanket!

Jessica Wallach is known for her compelling portraits of infants, children, and families and her fun, informative classes in basic photography of children. Now she is ready to share her skills as a photographer with you. These will be the skills that set you apart from your colleagues! www.portraitplaytime.com
